Since nearly the beginning of human kind - every generation in civilization the world over have sought to fulfill one of life's most basic quests... to secure and maintain a reliable source of pure, fresh water. Our very existence and prosperity demands no less. Unfortuantely, as history dictates, that quest has become increasingly more difficult over time.
A little background... by the year 2020, nearly fifty nations across the globe will suffer severe water shortages. By 2025 more than a dozen nations will need water from rivers controlled by hostile neighbors. By 2030 many cities that have existed for centuries will simply dry up. Presently six billion people inhabit the earth. By the year 2050 that figure will double. Yet, the planets available water supply will remain the same. And the quality of that supply is deteriorating.
Our rivers, lakes, and streams are being severely polluted by billions of tons of industrial waste and untreated sewage. With water consumption and pollution increasing at an alarming rate, the outlook is not promising.
The United Nations estimates the overall cost of the worldwide water crisis amounts to between $50,000,000,000 and $100,000,000,000 per year. Those figures will only increase with time. |
